Breakfast and Afterschool Club
Well I think a highlight of the last half term for our breakfast and afterschool children has been the wooden blocks. They absolutely love them and have been very busy building.
As always the craft table has been popular. The children have been busy digging through the junk modelling and turning simple boxes into brilliant creations. We have also enjoyed making paper lanterns and some very cute butterflies.
We have also welcomed a new member into our team this half term, Jasmine has come to join us and she will be working in Afterschool and Holiday Club. She has settled in brilliantly and the children are enjoying spending time with her.

Pre-School
What have we been up to...
This half term we have been exploring lots about living things and our natural world. The children have been very busy planting different seeds and flowers in and around the Hollies that we have been looking after. We have talked lots about how we care for different things and what different beings need to grow. The main points being water and sunshine, we have certainly had plenty of water recently so our plants have definitely had lots to drink, and the sunshine seems to have come out just enough for them to start growing. Some of our wildflowers are starting to peep out of the soil and we can see some little tiny green leaves. It also looks like our potatoes are starting to grow, they are always a tasty treat at snack when they are ready to cook. Our children in Badger Base have also been watching as our apple tree changes, it started as just branches, then it grew some lovely pink flowers and soon the apples will start to grow, though they do take a little while!
We have had lots of little creatures that have come to visit us too. The magnifying glasses and binoculars are getting very well used and there has been some very thorough bug explorers hunting around the playground. There are lots of ants, ladybirds, buzzy bees and we have even seen a fuzzy caterpillar or two. This has been a great opportunity for us to talk to the children about being gentle with all different creatures they find and helping to put them into a safer place if they are at risk of being squashed, a nice green leaf is always an excellent alternative.
We have done lots of activities for Mental Health Awareness week and the theme this year was active. A calming session of yoga has been an excellent way to start the day followed by a crazy dance session. Outside was turned into a giant obstacle course, the children had to go over, under, through and across some of our different pieces of guttering. It was a bit tricky at times but there were some lovely friends to offer a helping hand to get across. When the wind arrived so did the ribbon sticks and they looked beautiful blowing around as the children raced through the playground. The ride ons are always popular, we did a big ride on swap to encourage the children to keep moving and practice their pedaling. For such little legs it's a long way around the daily mile track on the school field but some of them ran all the way around! We were very impressed.
Some of our older children got to join in with the Lower Park children for sports day. We had our own team and had some helpers from school to show our children what to do, they had great fun doing races, challenges and games. Some children even made flags so their could cheer on their big brothers and sisters from the fence. It was a very warm day so we had lots of rest and drink breaks in between.
We also has a Spanish taster session with Laura which was great fun. We learnt how to say hello and goodbye, learnt how to salsa dance, had a tomato fight, sang some great Spanish songs and even had some churros and hot chocolate. The children loved it.
What are we working on...
This term we are focusing a lot on helping our older children feel school ready. We are talking and reading lots of stories about school to give them a bit more knowledge about it and encourage them to talk about it as well. We are encouraging the children to be more independent when completing tasks, helping them when needed but giving them lots of little challenges, things such as getting themselves changed if needed, putting on and zipping up their own coats, finding their name, etc. These things will all help support them once they are at school and also helps to build their self confidence.
What is coming up...
We have got lots of exciting things coming up next half term.
Wednesday 10th June is parents evening. We are looking forward to welcoming you in to have a catch up with your child's key worker.
The following week on Thursday 18th June will be our Father's Day Open morning, you are all welcome to come into the setting and spend the morning with your child. We will have lots of activities available for you to do together.
On Wednesday 1st July we will be holding Sport's day and our Teddy Bears Picnic, we will have our sport's morning first followed by a tasty picnic outside (if the weather decides to be nice!). We hope you can join us.
We will be visiting Reddish Vale Farm on Wednesday 8th July for our end of year trip, we are very excited to go and see all the animals.
Holiday Club
The sunshine came to join us for the first week of holiday club and we were very lucky. Although a little too warm outside we made up for it with lots of activities inside that were a bit cooler.
The children enjoyed making lots of different crafts around our 'funfair' theme. Feathers, gems, colours and sparkles have a been a key part of our decoration for this holiday club. We have enjoyed making masks, kites, ties and even made our own fairy wings.
The children loved using the water beads to make their own little fish in a bottle, they started out really tiny and then grew throughout the day once we put them in water, they were great fun to play in and even disappeared in water! After we put them in a bottle with some little tiny fish and sea animals.
We did some yummy baking and made some clown hats with ice cream cones and even made our own ice cream in a bag.
The field was a lovely place for us to have a picnic, we watched as the builders used the crane to lift the wood up onto the roofs of the new houses, it was very exciting.
An end of day dance party is always a hit as well in the holidays, we have played lots of musical statues and musical bumps, the Disney songs have been blasting.
