Well another month has flown by and we are already welcoming July! We have got some exciting adventures to tell you about .........

Breakfast and Afterschool Club

The month of June was an exciting one for afterschool. The children have been keeping busy and exploring all our resources and toys.

Outside in the sandpit we have been making sandcastles and shapes and have even been burying each others hands in the sand.

The paper and pencils outside has been another big hit and the children are really enjoying making different pictures and giving the staff lots of drawing challenges!

Our mud kitchen has been popular for den building and snack making, lots of tasty creations make their way out for us to try.

We had a little lady who made an excellent living room inside with the playdough, it had 2 sofas and a table and it looked very comfy!

The Duplo is always a big hit and we can often find big groups of children there building away. What a brilliant creation this was as well, I would love to see a real one and have a go walking across.

We have only got a few short weeks left of the school year now before we send some of our children over to Lower Park afterschool club, and we have got lots of fun things to pack into that time. Here's to a brilliant July.

Pre-School

What have we been up to...

There has been lots going on for us in June. One of the highlights being our Father's Day Open Day. Thank you as always to all those that came to spend the morning with us, the children had a brilliant time and we hope you did as well. We had lots of different activities on the go throughout the morning, including making cars out of cake, a medal for our special person and some rosettes for being brilliant.

Outside we had a ball toss and bowling on the go, it was quite competitive! Sadly, I seem to have misplaced the pictures from the morning so apologies that you can't see the activity, but it is safe to say that we all had a brilliant time.

Another highlight was our trip to Lyme Park and what a fabulous day that was. The children always love going there. Our group in the park area were all really engaged in our scavenger hunt and managed to find all the different things on the card.

In the Forest School we made popcorn and hot chocolate around the fire, swung in a hammock and tried not to fall asleep and did some brilliant den building, balancing and sawing to make medals. Thank you to everyone that joined us and made the day so special.

The theme in the home corner was based around the story 'Whatever next' and we explored all about space. We talked lots about the planets and different things you might find in space and how to get there. In circle time with Jo, they all wore their special 'helmets' and blasted off for an adventure.

We have made the most of the lovely sunshine and have been spending lots of our time outside, pouring and exploring water, blowing bubbles, building dens and even grating up chalk to make our own paint.

What are we working on...

We are continuing to support our older children during their transition over to school and helping to prepare them as much as we can for their new adventures.

We are encouraging more independence in all our children to give them the ability to complete tasks and activities by themselves (where age appropriate) to build self confidence. Also encouraging the children to help each other where possible, this helps to build their own sense of community and encourages the children to show care and kindness to others.

What is coming up...

Coming up this week we have got our Sports Day and Teddy Bear's Picnic on Wednesday, don't forget a teddy bear and something tasty for lunch if you will be joining us!

Over the next couple of weeks, on your child's last day or their last day with their keyworker, we will be doing a little 'Happy School Day's' presentation with them ready to send them off to big school. It is always so lovely to do this with the children before we send them off, though it can sometimes get a bit emotional!!

Useful Information for you...

A little tip for those of you sending children off to school. Give your children the opportunity to practice opening any packets or containers in their lunch bag that they might be having at school, or make sure the things inside are easy to open. There will be less adults to help at school and this will help give your children plenty of time to eat their dinner without waiting for something to be opened.

As always if there is anything you would like any additional advice or support with then please just let us know. You can look on our useful links page and this might already have the information you want to know.

Our Favourite Stories...

One of our favourite stories this month has been 'The Hungry Caterpillar'. An absolute classic and well enjoyed by everyone! We have even been getting out our story sack for this that has all the different foods made in felt.

Here is a link to an animated version if you don't have the book at home but would like to listen to the story.

Thank you for reading and we hope you have a lovely few weeks before the start of the summer holidays!!
