May has been a busy month for us at Hollies, we have had lots of exciting activities to keep us busy and as always have lots to tell you about. Click on one of the buttons below to take you to where you want to be.
Breakfast and Afterschool Club
The children have been absolutely embracing the sunshine over the last few weeks and have been spending most of their time outside. As soon as we have finished snack they are up and out of the door, building, creating and exploring.
Round the corner near the mud kitchen has definitely been a favourite place to be. The children have been using the crates and guttering to create rivers and waterfalls and have then been sending water down to fill up bowls at the bottom. They did some great teamwork and really enjoyed pouring the water from lots of different containers.

This one was built right next to the mud kitchen, a perfect spot to grab a quick snack or make something tasty ;).

The GIANT pieces of paper have been venturing outside with us aswell and there is something a little bit more exciting about colouring outside, especially on the grass!

We hope they all made it back home in one piece!
Our pizza restaurant was also very popular and there was some excellent chef's working there. The pizzas had all sorts of toppings such as, pineapple, onions, olives, pepperoni and more, they were very tasty.

Here is a few more pictures of some other things the children have been up to.
We are hoping that the sunshine returns and the rain goes on holiday ready for us to have even more fun over the next month.
Pre-School
What have we been up to...
We had a very exciting visit from the dentist. Carina and Chloe came in to visit us and talk to the children all about their teeth and how they can look after them. They brought some toothbrushes and some big teeth with them for the children to use and practice on.

Carina and Chloe were brilliant with the children keeping them engaged and interested throughout.

We talked about brushing our teeth for 2 minutes, twice a day, in a circular motion to help get any build up off them.

Also, making sure that we eat and drink sugary things in moderation, making sure to clean our teeth after to keep them safe and strong.

The children were brilliant aswell and really enjoyed brushing the teddies teeth with their toothbrushes.

A big thank you to both Carina and Chloe for coming to visit us and providing such an exciting time!
We are a crafty bunch and always enjoy having a craft on the go! The children have really enjoyed having the waterpaints and brushes out, they have been exploring colour mixing, mark-making and creating with their friends.

There has been lots on the go outside aswell! We have been building...

...Seesawing...

...making sandcastles...

...and much more.
What are we working on...
We are giving our older children some extra support over this next half term as we help to prepare them for school. The pictures on their names have been hidden at snack time to help them to recognize their name rather than just the picture and we have been talking more about school and what the teachers will be expecting once they arrive. We have been encouraging their independence for small tasks, such as putting on coats/shoes and changing their own clothes if they get wet/dirty from play, this will help support them during a variety of different activities when they leave us.
What is coming up...
Next week we have got our end of year trip to Lyme Park on Wednesday 25th June, we always have an absolutely brilliant time here and are all very excited.
Useful Information for you...
Here is a few activities that you can do with your children to help prepare them for school.
Any activities that involve your child scrunching up and opening their hand will be great to help them develop their hand muscles. Things such as squeezing lemons, or squeezing water out of sponges, squeezy bottles when watering the plants or playing with playdough are some great activities to try. Using things such as tongs or pegs when picking up small toys will also help build up their fine-motor and co-ordination aswell.
Try and encourage your child to change and dress themself whenever possible, if they don't want you to you could perhaps try and make it a game or a race, "Can you get your sock on before I put mine on?".
Also try and encourage your child do things such as going to the toilet themselves, washing hands and blowing their nose.
Holiday Club
Our holiday club theme for half term was exploring the world and different ways that we could help look after and care for it. We had lots of different crafts and activities available throughout the 2 weeks.
One of the children's favourite activities was junk modelling. We collected lots of different materials over the weeks before Holiday Club started and used these to talk about recycling. We split them up into different materials and talked about what we could recycle and what we couldn't. We also talked about what happens when we don't recycle and where these materials can end up. Afterwards we let their imaginations run wild and sent them off to craft their own things. The children LOVED this and it carried on throughout the whole holidays. They were all very proud to show you what had been making when they went home.

We also made things that we could put back into the world to help our wildlife.
We used lots of different resources to make bug houses, making sure there was different sections for different bugs.

To help the bees and wildlife we also made some seed bombs that looked like the earth. These can be planted in the garden and with water they will start to grow some wildflowers, have any started to grow yet?

The child REALLY enjoyed shredding up the paper for this into little tiny pieces, I think some of them would've stayed there all day if we let them!

Other crafts that the children enjoyed were making rain sticks, painting, creating nature wands and exploring the different layers of the earth.

Over half term we also enjoyed doing some baking, we made some Earth biscuits and some volcano cupcakes. The children did some great building with the blocks outside and managed to build the marble run! Some of the older girls put on a great show which everyone went over to watch aswell! We even had an extra special visit from Charlotte's tortoise who the children were very excited to see.
Here are a few more pictures for you ...
Thank you as always for reading along, we look forward to lots more fun over June!
